Andean Snail Eater

We found this little snake curled up on our steps a few weeks ago, just taking a nap in the sun.  After consulting the reptile and amphibian book, we determined this is an Andean Snail Eater (Dispsas andiana); a snake specialized in eating gastropods by tracking their slime trails.  The snake has a distinctive U shape on its head that makes it easy to identify.  The next day the Snail Eater had slithered off, perhaps in pursuit of snails.
