Hello out there. I haven’t written much on here lately. Partly why I haven’t written much is because I’ve been busy. I have a full time job as a fossil preparator in Tucson AZ now. I also have a regular job writing articles for earth.com and a job writing for The Tucson Dog.
Recently our president reduced by executive order the size of Bear’s Ears National Monument by 85% and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by 50%. These are actions that nearly brought me to tears but after a day of mourning, I started writing. I am writing a series of articles about Bear’s Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Trump and surrounding issues for earth.com. If you’re interested, read those articles. I’ll also try to write more here about this fight. I also encourage you to educate yourselves about what’s happening. I encourage you to fight for public lands, for land preservation and indigenous rights. Patagonia and many in the outdoor industry have taken a stand. Native American groups are taking a stand. I am going to write a letter of protest on the back of my Eagle Scout Award and send it to secretary of the Interior Zinke, who himself earned Eagle Scout once upon a time. I am also looking into other forms of protest. I encourage you to fight this ugliness with any beauty you have within you. Write letters, sign petitions, speak out. March. Fight. As Edward Abbey encouraged us, do remember to outlive the bastards.
“Man always kills the thing he loves, and so we the pioneers have killed our wilderness. Some say we had to. Be that as it may, I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in.” -Aldo Leopold-
